Dr. James Frizzell
Based in Canada, Dr. James Frizzell has owned and operated Frizzell Dental for over 20 years. Through this family cosmetic and dental practice, he serves patients in Niagara Falls, Ontario; Welland; St. Catharines; and Niagara-on-the-Lake. He has built his career around providing consistent dental care to individuals and families in these communities. In addition to his clinical work, he is committed to advocacy and education focused on addressing abuse and human trafficking. He continues to balance his dental responsibilities with broader efforts that support vulnerable individuals.
Education
Frizzell studied at the University of Toronto, where he earned a BSc in Organic/Inorganic Chemistry and later completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. During his time in the Department of Chemistry, he received an NSERC scholarship under the supervision of Professor Robert Morris. His research, along with that of his colleagues, was published in the Journal of Organometallic Chemistry. This academic foundation shaped his analytical approach to dentistry and forensic work.
In 1997, he attended FaithWay Baptist College in Ajax, Ontario, and earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. Years later, in 2019, he completed a degree in Dental Forensics at McGill University. Alongside his formal education, he has pursued many additional courses. These include mental health and suicide skill training, digital crime scene photography, a civil litigation workshop, strangulation prevention, and other related subjects. His continued study reflects a steady commitment to professional growth and service.
Professional Work
At Frizzell Dental
At Frizzell Dental, he and his team provide dental hygiene services, restorative dentistry, cosmetic teeth whitening, emergency dental care, and preventive treatments. The practice welcomes both adults and children and provides care to patients of all ages. The office is recognized for maintaining a comfortable environment and using modern dental procedures and equipment. Dr. James works closely with his staff to ensure that each patient receives careful and respectful treatment.
Preventive services at the clinic include periodontal therapy, sealants, tooth extraction, routine periodontal care, fluoride applications, and other essential treatments. Cosmetic services include a Zoom in-office whitening system, bonding, tooth-colored fillings, porcelain crowns, inlays/onlays, and dental implants. These options allow patients to maintain oral health while also improving the appearance of their smiles. The goal of the practice is to provide dependable care that meets both functional and aesthetic needs.
Many patients have shared positive feedback about their experiences. One patient wrote, “Hands down the best dentist I’ve been to…I broke my front tooth, got me in immediately, took care of it very fast, great pricing all around, great place. Staff is super kind, highly recommended if there was an option for more than 5 stars, most definitely would be higher.” Another patient stated, “I have been going to Dr. Frizzell for years, he takes care of my whole family… the only dentist I know that actually cares about you! Wouldn’t go anywhere else ever! He keeps us all smiling…” These reviews reflect the trust that patients place in him and his team.
A Military Dental Officer
Dr. James also served for eight years as a Military Dental Officer with the Canadian Forces Dental Corps. In this role, he helped ensure that soldiers were dentally fit during the Gulf Wars. His responsibilities required readiness and attention to the specific needs of military personnel. He was recognized by the Base Commander at Cold Lake Air Base in Alberta for his service and contributions. This period of service added to his professional experience and discipline.
Dedicated to Combating Abuse, Human Trafficking
Beyond clinical dentistry, he focuses on the recognition and prevention of child abuse, elderly abuse, human trafficking, and intimate partner violence. In August 2025, he published a book titled “Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking. From a Canadian Perspective.” Through this work, he shares information intended to raise awareness and encourage action within healthcare and community settings.
Frizzell is the co-founder of Dentists United Against Human Trafficking. This organization works to educate dental professionals and provide them with tools to identify and respond to signs of trafficking within their practices. The mission centers on raising awareness in the dental field, training clinicians to recognize warning signs, and promoting the inclusion of human trafficking education in dental training programs. By supporting these efforts, he seeks to strengthen dental teams’ role in safeguarding patients.
Dental professionals are often among the few healthcare providers who may observe physical indicators during treatment. By using this position responsibly, he helps close gaps in recognition and intervention. In January 2026, he and a colleague published an article titled “What’s Happening in Ontario: Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting” in the Oral Health Journal. He also serves as a Human Trafficking Consultant for Crime Stoppers Niagara, offering guidance based on his knowledge and experience.

Dr. Frizzell regularly delivers presentations and participates in podcasts on topics related to mental health, domestic violence, and human trafficking. He speaks to forensic nurses and other healthcare professionals, sharing practical insights. His presentations cover subjects such as “Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting,” “Domestic Violence,” “Human Trafficking Victims: Recognition and Reaction,” “The Forensics of Suicide,” “Identifying Intraoral & Extraoral Signs of Child Abuse,” and “Cannabis Addiction and Consequences.” He also provides forensic expertise in bruising and bitemark analysis and has been called as a witness in court cases.

Each summer, he donates to and meets with temporary workers in grape orchards from Mexico and Cuba. He also participates in hymn sing-alongs at nursing homes. Through his professional, educational, and volunteer efforts, Dr. James Frizzell continues to serve both his patients and his broader community.
